At the Heart of Success

Four Briggs & Stratton Vanguard™ V-Twin engines have famously powered Don Wales and his British Steam Car to record-breaking success at Edwards Air Force Base, USA. The car, shown below, reached a staggering 155mph and achieved an average speed of 148.308mph, comfortably setting a new record for a measured kilometer.

Barry Goodchild, Sales Manager for Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power in the UK stated “The Vanguard™ V-Twin engines powered the three rigs which were effectively the ‘life support system’ for the Steam Car.” He continued, “We knew that the Vanguard engines would be more than ready for the challenging environment in which the British Steam Car would operate. We are just very happy to be able to support this cause which will go down in history.”

The 18hp sister version of these 25hp record-breaking engines provide the superior clout for the Westwood T1800. This explains the exceptional performance of one of their many fine models. We would like to congratulate and celebrate the success of Briggs and Stratton as it is a remarkable achievement, and take this opportunity to remind you that we can provide any spare parts for the Westwood T1800 tractors, as with the extensive range of models on offer.
